What you talk about in your psychotherapy session is confidential.
However, there are limits to confidentiality. Firstly, as a registered practitioner, I am required to have supervision – these are regular meetings with an experienced psychotherapist with whom I discuss my work. I do this in a way that your personal details are anonymised and thus my supervisor has no knowledge of who you are.
Secondly, if you disclose something that leads me to believe that you are risk of harm, or that someone else is at risk of harm, I am required by my professional code of practice to break confidentiality. In this very unusual circumstance, I would discuss this with you beforehand although there are some very extreme situations where that might not be possible. I am happy to discuss this further in our first meeting.
